file server

    :confused: i want to setup a file server and have never done so can i use win XP pro in the server machine or do i need 2000
    and then what do i do to set it up?

    please help me

    madballs - did you really mean FTP server or do you want a file server for your local network?

    If FTP - see the link abraxas posted.

    If LAN File Server, XP will do pretty much the same job as 2K. The limitation you would face is one that exists with all NT workstation systems (NT4/2K/XP) where you can only have 10 other PCs connected at any one time. More than 10 and you will need a server OS loaded and as of right this moment, there isn't an XP server version so 2K is pretty much it.
