I created User Logins that are just taking up room on my HDU. I would like to delete them and keep only the Administrator and Guest logins.

I assume one with a name and one called Default can be dleted, but how. They do not show up at log-in but Explorer shows a directory and subs for each. What's the safe and easy way to delete them?

Cal, did you look in start>settings>control panel>user accounts?

That should give you a screen with all your accounts. Selecting one of the accounts will then give you a screen where you have the option of deleting the account.

    Cal!

Do not delete any account created by windows install which includes the "Default ". Only ones you have added.

    You have been warned! Smile!

If I go to the User Accounts only two show up. . . . Administrator (me) and Guest.

But if I look at "Documents and Settings" I see 5 subdirectories.
    Administrator
    All Users
Cal (which I had created after reading that it is dangerous to operate as Administartor, but abandoned after must of my stuff didn't transfer over to Cal)
Default User (per mflynn, don't delete)
    Guest

I see much duplication of files under all these. Can I assum I could eliminate all but Adminsitrator and Guest and Default?
And, if so, how? By jsut deleting the dirtectories?

    NO!

All Users is a special folder!
    Do not delete Guest!

XP & 2K use these in the control structure they are needed!

You can however get rid of CAL, but begin in USER, remove him from users then delete his profile in Documents and settings.

The files in these folders are very small as they are mostly links, do not worry about them.

    mflynn,

I'm lost on how to get rid of the CAL directories.

You say USER. How do I get there. I don't have USER as a log-in choice and it doesn't appear under User Accounts.

Maybe I'm having a bad day or maybe I'm getting senile, but I'm lost.

    I hope you're refreshed

Boy, I hope you got a good night's sleep, because "I'MMMM BBAAAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKK. "

I've been able to rid my self of "Cal's" files and folders EXCEPT that the directory "Cal" and a sub-directory "My Documents" can't be deleted or renamed or moved. I get the message that another user is using "My Documents. "

I've closed all tasks and tried closing the processes, but run into problems before I get to a process that might be running My Documents.

I do have the same subdirectory under the Administrator.

    Any further suggestions?

    No!

Reboot F8 to safe mode while the boot progress bar is going across the bottom.

Log into safe mode as administrator. Go into My computer then to tools-folder options-view under hidden files and folders select to show.

Then browse in My Computer to the folders it would not let you remove and remove them now! I would then reverse the hidden back to original.
