Installed SP3=no sound???

I'm trying to get Final Fantasy VII working on this machine. I started off with a clean install of W2000Pro. Then I started following the steps on this page, http://www.ffseven.com/aboutff7/index.shtml . After I got done with the Install SP3 step I had no sound. It's not a hardware issue, neither my sound card or the onboard sound card want to work. But if I put regular music CD in it will work. This is starting to drive me nuts. Any help will be majorly appriciated.

My specs.
Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
Athlon XP 2000+
512 PC2700 DDR
Maxtor 40 gig HD
Geforce4 4200
The sound card I normally use is a Diamond Monster mx300, I've had no problems with it before. But the onboard sound card is also doing the same thing.

I got sound on the onboard soundcard, but the monster still does not want to work.

 

Have you double-checked all your volume settings to make sure nothing is muted?
