    Zephyr,

according to aida32 under "pci devices" the firelink usb controller is there - no sign of floppy
    under "pnp" devices:
the floppy disc controller is present
    the pci bus is there

    under "windows devices "
there is a "standard floppy disc controller "

    thanks

Typically what happens is the floppy disk data cable gets partially pulled off the connector pins at the motherboard end. Check both ends of both cables, power and data. Determine power is getting to the drive as witnessed by the light on the drive flashing when booting up.

If you unplugged either of those cables, check that you didn't bend or otherwise damage any pins when you replugged them and that they are seated properly.

Just generally retrace your actions and I'm sure you'll find the answer to be something simple.

    Good luck. :)

The red stripe on the flat ribbon cable should go to pin 1 on the connector (on the back of the floppy drive pin 1 usually is the one beside the power connector). I had one box that gave me the " floppy disk (s) fail (40)" error and turned out to be a dead floppy drive (just died for no apperant reson all at once). Then on another I found that I had plugged the cable in backwards.

    Just an idea
