One of our office computers will not allow the user to delete messages from the inbox. This has just occured in the last few days. Is there a toggle that is not allowing this. I do not seem to be able to find an area in outlook that does that. The files can be moved and then deleted. They can not be moved to the deleted file folder though. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Mark

    Two things you can try.

    1) Repair IE(OE is tied to IE). Control panel, add/remove programs, highlight Internet Explorer, click add/remove, select repair IE from the options.

    2) If the above doesnt work. Post back. The 2nd method involves deleting the inbox, but if the computer in question has more than one identity setup in OE, this will involve some registry searching..

    OE INBOX STILL NOT WORKING

Thanks aleekat for the reply. I tried the first repair but to no avail. I had also tried upgrading to the latest version of IE but this did not fix the problem. The computer in question has a lot of files in the delete, inbox, and sent folders. The operator is reluctant to get rid of a lot of the messages. Could this have an affect on the deleting of the massages?

    Thanks

What exactly happens when the message is highlighted and delete button pushed? Any error messages? Delete button grayed out?

Is his the only identity on this computer?

    EDIT:

You might try compacting his folders..
    Post back good or bad.

    still won't work

I tried to compact the folders. Still no go. When I hit delete nothing happens. I am able to move the messages to another folder but not to the deleted folder. Strange. I just have to convince the user to get rid of all of the unnecassary messages and open some new folders for the ones he wants to keep. This might free the inbox to delete again.

Well, if he has stuff in the deleted folder, I guess he doesnt need those. Why not try emptying the deleted folder and try deleting again. You still never answer my very first question. Is his the only identity in OE?

    IDENTITY IN OE

Sorry, Yes he is the only id in OE. I did empty the deleted folder. Even after that I am unable to delet from the inbox. There also seems to be some problem with OE and the memory.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It may be a corrupted inbox. Open OE. Move the messages he wants to keep from the inbox to another folder. Close OE. Do a find for inbox.dbx. Only one should be found. If more than one, right click on one, properties, make sure it belongs to OE. Once you find the correct one. Right click, delete. When you open OE again the inbox will be rebuilt. I do recall seeing something about memory problems on MS site to do with OE. Can you post the exact error message?

    OE inbox

    Thanks Aleekat

I did a search for the inbox.dbx and deleted it. I still have the same problem. The error problem has not come up lately. If it does come up again I will get the exact error for you. What I will do next is take OE off the system and then reinstall it. Don't know what else to do at this point. This is just a strange error.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It may be that it's not the Inbox that's corrupted, but the Deleted Items folder. Try deleting that and see if the problem is resolved.

    OE problem

That was it aleekat. I deleted the deleted file folder and when I whent back into OE I was able to delete from the inbox. All is well for now. Thanks again for your help. It was much appreciated. As for my knowledge, good in some areas not so good in others.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Glad you got it fixed. I understand your situation. I'm kinda the unofficial computer guy where I work. Some people didnt know you have to empty your sent folders too....
