Wireless and Clueless

I have a new Sony VX89 with wireless LAN. I was in a place where there is free wireless and tried it. The wireless network connection was recognised at a good speed, but IE would not use it, telling me that the page cannot be displayed. I tried aol on LAN and it also did not use the wireless connection. I looked at the HELP files but as usual could not find anything useful. I hope all that is wrong is the setup of IE, but do not know where to start. Would appreciate advice, thanks...

 

Is the pc already setup to use the LAN as your default internet connection? How do you usually connect the internet with that pc?

 

Yes I usually connect via LAN (Cable or local LAN) with no problem. I expected that when the wireless connection was made and good, all I had to do was connect to it through the LAN settings, but no........

 

With IE have you tried connecting to a site by IP rather than by name? If one works and the other doesn't, we have a good starting place.

Try putting 64.246.42.33 or 195.188.113.225 in the browser window and see if you get anywhere.
