ping lan behind a router

    Can someone help.

    I am wanting to ping PC's behind a router.

    example

    my pc (64.40.*.*)

    remote router (64.30.*.*)
    lan behind (192.168.*.*)

    is it at all possible///

    please help.

    I'm not an expert but I believe the only way to do that is to setup port forwarding on the router, then ping the IP with the port.

    ie. Setup port 100 on the router to point to the pc with an IP of 192.168.0.1.

    Then the ping would be:
    ping 192.168.0.1:100

    Like I said this may be too simplistic, but it is the way I understand it.

    Yes, that's right. Computers outside the network know only the router. The router must set up specific portforwarding to specific computers in the network.

    e.g. You can run a web server on a computer inside the network, but to make it visible you have to forward port 80 on the router to the computer with a web server.
