I have been looking into buying a new pc and the Emachines T2460 (AMD 2400+, 256 DDR ram, XP, and more) has really caught my eye. The price $650 seems excellent for the features list.

I used to look at Emachines and laugh at how they were **** with everything integrated and no room for expansion. This pc allows for expansion and has some impressive features for the price.

Is there anyone out there who owns or has worked on one and can tell me the ups/downs of this model?

I can't spend a lot for a pc and I'm not interested in building one due to the hassle (I have the knowledge but I don't want to spend more than I have to, and software and hardware would put me over the price of what emachines is offering. I did my homework)

Any info on this model is greatly appreciated whether positive or negative.

Well i bought the T2460, benchmarked it, looked into all the goodies and I think I got a Great Deal.

    For $650
    AMD 2400+
32 MB DDR Integrated S3 Prosavage Graphics, which handled Unreal Tournament 2003 pretty well (for an integrated card definitely not bad)
    DVD Player
    Seperate CD Recorder Drive
256 DDR upgradeable to a GB
3 PCI slots (came with a 56 modem which I quickly pulled cause I use a cable modem)
    1 AGP (empty)
    6 USB ports (2.0)
    Avance AV 97 Integrated sound
    Integrated 10/100MB Nic
    Windows XP
    MS Money
    DVD Software
    CD Recording Software

AMD Processors ROCK! Once I get a better AGP Video Card, I'll be set.

    UPDATE!!!!

I got rid of the Emachines computer because:

I bought a new video card to replace the on board card. I got a Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB AGP. I read the instructions on how to install and followed them step by step (even updated my AGP Controller with Hyperia Drivers suggested by ATI as mandatory for my VIA Chipset)

I disabled the onboard video through the BIOS and removed all drivers in XP per the instructions from ATI. I could not get the card to work. I placed 2 calls to Emachines and 3 to ATI.

ATI support did everything they could do for me and they were knowledgeable. Emachines tech support sucked big time. They do not know how to disable onboard video properly. They flat out told me so. I laughed!!!

I searched the net and found out many previous Emachines models required a jumper setting be changed on the motherboard in order to fully disable on board video. Problem was, my Emachine Model was the newest out and there was no info on the net pertaining to it (Which Jumper? I even looked on the motherboard to see if any jumpers were logically labelled). At this time, emachines website doesn't even have any good knowledge on their website about this model !!!

I took it back to Bestbuy and they said they know how to fully disable video on the motherboard..... for a $40 charge. You have to be kidding, 40 bucks to do a 2 minute job! I said "no way ", returned the PC and got an HP 734N. Same exact processor, same speed CD Writer, Seperate DVD player just like the Emachine T2460, more memory (512MB vs. 256), 20GB bigger hard drive, Video card (instead of on board) - Nvidia MX 420 (somewhat old but works great and I can play video games on my 36" tv with excellent clarity)

The HP cost me only $25 more (it was an open box).

So this is how it broke down... For returning the ATI card and the Emachines computer...I got an HP 734N (better computer), A 50 pack of CD's, A Gamepad, and a printer.

and $5 left over in my pocket.. Now I'm very happy.

Also a word to the wise. If you buy an open box computer from Bestbuy, you may have all of the previous owners info still on the pc! Between the previous owner and Bestbuy nobody reformatted the drive and did a clean install. Of course there were viruses on it!!

But I cleaned it all up and everything is good now! Point is: Emachines is not a bargain when your dealing with unknowledgable support and difficult motherboards. I'll add that the manual that came with the PC was absolute garbage, if you don't know how to plug in a mouse or setup a monitor then it may be useful. That's about it.
