What is a better way to add Usb ports to ad older computer ?
Either using the usb pins on the motherboard or buying one of
the pci cards that they sell now.
attaching to the pins would only give one connected usb port and
is a bit cheaper (10 $ vs 30) but would only givbe only active Usb port unless one could find an adaptor of some type ?

    Rockster,
thanks. Good place that I never knew of.
What do they generally charge for shipping ?
a question if the rate of the Usb 2 is 480 whatever what would I get with an older machine (Amd 350 ) with the old Usb
involving just the cord and connector?
would I necessarily get the full max 480 rate or what
    could I realistically expect . :D

If you run the USB off your motherboard USB pins you will not have USB 2.0 only USB 1. USB 1 runs about 12 Mbps where USB 2 is 480 Mbps. Also with USB 2 you will need 98SE, ME, 2000 or XP. Don't know when you looked at the site that Rockster2U gave you if you saw the other card that has 5 USB 2.0 fitting on it.
http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SIMT010C As for shipping charges click on the buy it now and the page that comes up has a Compute Shipping button. That will show you how much it will cost by the different ways it can be shipped. You can save 10% off (Non Geek Specials) by using promotional code: TECHBARGAINS

    Russ,

certainly dramatically better speeds with the Usb 2.
At this point the Usb port is for a web camera
Would an Amd 350 cpu with a 100 mhz motherboard speed
be able to take advantage of the increased transfer rate ?
What other uses would the Usb be good for ?

If you are using 98SE or higher versionsof windows and have a open PCI slot you should not have a problem with the USB 2.0 card. As for what hardware will use USB. They have hard drives, CD-ROMs, DVDs, scanners, cameras, keyboards and the list goes on of things that can use a USB port.

If the Webcamera is not USB 2 compatible it will not work any faster.
