Does the blue screen mention a file name, something like Vxd VFAT or Vxd VMM32 or VxD NAVAP? or does it mention a page fault?
Did you happen to recently uninstall Zone Alarm?

    Fatal exception 0028:C00322EF

Thank you so much for responding so soon....

It just says, "Fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C00322EF. Current application will be terminated. "

    Then gives con/alt/del directions.

Sometimes it totally crashes and other times the screen I was working on comes back as though nothing happened. Usually have trouble signing off and logging on after crash.....norton has to do a lot of fixing.

I recently downloaded spybot and lavasoft. Could they be causing it? I don't remember whether it began soon after or not.

Could it be norton 2003? I installed that this month, too.

    Put new hub in, too.

Searched all over the web and couldn't find anything on my particular error message.

Also, just noticed today, that 'puter causes static on my radio...and they are not on the same circuit.

NO! SpyBot nor AdAware would not cause this!

    Norton could. Very likely.

If you want to fix this do the below. First we will do a deep clean to clear the slate. Then we will get control of the startups.

    Step 1.

    Configure CleanMgr to max settings
    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sageset:1
The above need only be ran once (these settings will be remembered as the default until another sageset is ran).

It will present a menu select all except compress, then

    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:1
As long as /sageset above has been ran on this computer from now on the /sagerun is the only thing that needs to run.

    Step 2.

    Cleanups
These are for 95 98 ME only!
Boot to DOS (not shutdown to DOS). While booting hit F8 to startup menu. Chose "command prompt only ".

    Type these commands exactly

del c:\*.swp (may get file not found, is ok)
    del c:\windows\*.swp
    deltree c:\windows\shelli*.*
deltree c:\windows\temp\*.* (answer yes to all) "ALL "
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1\*.*
    deltree c:\windows\history\*.*
    deltree c:\windows\spool\printers\*.*

    Reboot

    Step 3.

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/startuplist.zip
StartupList does nothing but grab all Autoload (startups) and puts them
In a Wordpad file so that you can then copy it and paste it back to us in a
message so that we can advise on a problem here.

    Step 4.

    Startup control panel
    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
This gives simple and full control of what starts at boot up. After install there will be a Startup icon in control panel.

After you post back the results of the StartupList we can advise you on that!

These look like a complex and long process, but are not, do them 1 step at a time. All should take no longer than 20 minutes including D/L.

Additionally they will greatly improve performance and stability if if they do not fix this specific problem, which they most likely will fix or uncover.

Could be more specific about when you get this fatal exception 0E?

Is it only when you're connected to the Internet? You say it happens going from site to site....this is using Internet Explorer?

What program gives you this error when you open it?

Does it happen in Safe Mode, or if you do a "clean boot "?

If the problem started right after removing spyware, the Spybot SD program has a Recovery feature that will restore the deleted files and registry entries so you could try that first. I don't know about lavasoft.

I don't know what you mean by that.

    Hi guys :)

I see that you are trying to figure this out by private messages. I'm cool with that

BUT please get back to the rest of us reading along (and future readers) with the final outcome.

There's nothing so frustrating as doing a newsgroup or message board search, finding your exact problem and then seeing that the parties concluded the troubleshooting to private email and that the final solution was not posted to the thread!

Even if a final solution is not found the troubleshooting steps could help others with the same problems.

    I'm outta here now ;)

Thank you all for your responses.

Didn't get back sooner because I started new job and have no time.

Alice, the hub is a USB extension thingey that I can plug printer and scanner into instead of switching each time. Only have 2 USB ports and 3 USB add ons. Called it a hub because that's what the package said.

Think I found the culprit. Turned off all my sound and haven't crashed.

First, noticed sound had something to do with crash so uninstalled sound stuff, w98 reinstalled it and was fine until "You've got mail!" and another crash so I deleted the aol .wav files.

This is third consecutive time on puter with no crash but also no sound.

You can temporarily disable all your Windows sound events, including the New Mail Notification (You've got mail) and Start Navigation (the "click" you hear when going from site to site) using Start Settings Control Panel, Sounds. Select each event that has a sound associated with it and change it to "None ".

Just in case it's related, remove the USB hub and see if that makes any difference.

Run dxdiag.exe (the DirectX diagnostic tool): Go to Start, Run, and type in DXDIAG. What version of DirectX do you have installed?

What sound device do you have listed in Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game controllers? Are there any errors showing up in Device Manager?

Here are two Microsoft articles I found that mention fatal exception errors playing .wav files:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q299478
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;127022

Here is a general article on troubleshooting wav sound problems:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q140334

    See if anything there helps.
