just installed WinXP after 100 years of Win98. Now on startup, I am presented with the Roxio CD selector options panel which I must close in order to proceed. I cannot find any info on controlling which apps are launched on startup. Startup is not even listed in the help index. Also, I am constantly bombarded with solicitations to purchase items while on the Internet. They are not in the background but center screen where I cannot ignore them. This never happened before. Is this a new IE feature? Can anyone help me? Thnx.

Use this, it is the best startup control for any windows version.

    Startup control panel
    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
This gives simple and full control of what starts at boot up. After install there will be a Startup icon in control panel.

Then to get rid of messenger (different from MSN messenger)

    http://www.webattack.com/get/xpantispy.shtml
Select everything except these 4 items.
    1. Don’t show balloon tips
    2. Enable fast shutdown
    3. Increase MaxConnectionsperServer to 10
    4. Disable Task Scheduler service
After the first reboot after you run XPAntiSpy go back to XpAntiSpy and uncheck the clear Pagefile at shutdown, as we only want to clear it once.

    And lastly

Go here and configure your services.
