you will have to buy two copies. or at least obtain another license for the CD to go with the second pc. Windows XP must be activated within 30 days and you can't activate the same copy of XP on two pcs.

I can only refer to the way I understand things.

I had XP PRO on two machines. ( not networked ) but I understand that if did not activate it with in 30 days it would kill both. But it is only on this one now.

Unlke 98 XP can not be used on more than one machine once actvated. And if not actvated it will disable both anyway and it can not be re-installed again.

Now mind you, this is the way I understand things.

That is why I am beating the thing to death ( or trying to with no success ) before I actvate it. That way I can wipe out and re-install if I have too.

    PS.
    I am learning too.

I was told that once XP is installed and the CDkey was used it had to be registered if not reistered in 30 days it quits but the registration also logs the hardware if you change any "major" hardware like the motherboard or CPU then XP will think its on a different computer and deactivate itself. I wonder what would happen if I did a full Factory Restore on a "OEM" PC like a Compaq wouldn't it have to be registered again? If so then it would reject the restored PC and I would have to buy another license, if so then everytime someone has a major disaster or major upgrade then MS gets to sell another license.

    win xp on 2 computers

    Hi all
Thank you very much for posting, and your info is very helpful.I am new at all this computer junk, but am tryin to read as much as I can and ask lots a questions before I dive in head first.

Well the more I read about win xp the more Iam not sure. Will I run into the same problems with other versions of windows, or does setup and activation vary?

Again thanx for taking time to answer my dumb questions.
