I find that my computer is loosing a few minutes from the system clock each day. Is this an indication of a computer battery going bad?

If you lose time while the PC is running, almost certainly not the CMOS battery since it only holds the value when the PC is powered down.

Many computers only keep fair time on their own. They will tend to gain or lose some time. Easiest thing to do is at least a daily synch with a computer that is keeping good time. Quite a few internet sites that offer links to authoritative time servers.

If you only lose while the PC is powered off, then most likely a CMOS battery that is going bad.

Thanks for your reply. I do have the atomic clock installed on my computer so I am able to keep accurate time when the computer is on.

I shut it off at night and I will check the time tomorrow. If the clock has lost time then I probably need a new battery.

    Thanks again for your reply.
