Corrupted desktop icons

    Hi there. recently I installed a "Desktop makeover" program which I later uninstalled. Around that time, my desktop icons have become corrupted (All icons except the default ones, explorer, recycle etc) What has happened is the original program icons are still there, but they all have the windows notepad icon over the top of them. Is there a fix for this? Regards Chris

    It's fixed. here is the cure for any other users who may have a problem like this in future:

    Right click on the desktop and choose properties.
    Then choose the effects tab then check or uncheck the show icons in all possible colors box and apply and ok it
    This will cause windows to rebuild your desktop icons.
    Also you might want to make sure its not checked since this greatly speeds up windows.
