My StarOffice 5.2 hangs up on the logo. I've used the heck out of it for the past 3 years. Don't know what happened. I have noticed I have files in StarOffice with the ".lck" extensions. Is this my problem? I don't have the disk, it was already installed on my computer when I bought it. Do I need to buy the StarOffice software and reinstall the thing?
Thanks sos much for any help.:D

    Hi hollywoodtun
Welcome to the boards. Can you give us a little more information? What operating system are you running? After a fresh boot, do a ctrl/alt/del and list for us what you have in yor close programs dialogue box?

What OS do you use? And is your virus scanner up to date, what do you use, and have you done a full scan?

These things that just quit like this are usually a choked system or spy/adware or virus.

So I would do the following items first.

    Some deep cleaning.
    start-run
    type

    cleanmgr /sageset:1
it will present a menu select all except compression

    then

    start-run
    type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:1

Then d/l install and run the following.

    Spyware and adware removal
    http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/downloads.html

Run SpyBot first and run it twice, then run Adaware.

Reboot and recheck for problem. If still problem we need to know what OS you use 95,98,2k or XP?

    Ok! ME!

Do the steps I gave and report back! That may be all it takes?

But 1 more question? Any other problems, slowdowns, recent virus.

And what about the questions I asked about virus scanner?

OK...I have done a full virus scan....nothing there to report.
Just still have this problem opening StarOffice 5.2. Just get the logo...an hour glass momentarily....hour glass disappears....then the logo just sits there on my screen until I have to ctrl..alt..delete it. Then I get a box saying program is not responding and I'm prompted to "end task ", so I do.
    Please help!!!!:( Singing the Blues

Yes, I done everything I was told to....The full run virus scan came up empty handed and I did all the steps Mike suggested....Still I am not able to open this application. I double-click StarOffice in my programs list....I get the logo and an hour glass....then the hour glass dissappears....the logo hangs on, and on, and on....I have to 'CTRL..ALT..DELETE" to remove the logo....then I get a message stating that "the program isn't responding or it may have quit running "
So .....any suggestions? I hope so.....thanks....hollywood:(

Also, the list of what I had in the dialogue box after a reboot is listed a few replies back.

Sorry about that. I thought that list was from before you ran adaware and spybot, as you've still got Hbsrv (Hotbar) showing?

    Good Morning Daizy!
Yes I still have hbsrv,....but....I might be on to something...I have discovered that I do not have "Swflash.ocx ". It's been deleted. Could this have anything to do with my staroffice? If so, is there a way I can get it back?

If StarOffice 5.2 was preinstalled on your computer then the computer maker (for example, IBM, Packard Bell or HP) is responsible for support and at the very least should tell you how to reinstall the program if the CD-Rom was not included.

You might find the information on the PC maker's website.

Thanks Alice, I will get in touch with emachines now. Never thought of that. Thanks for all the help I've been given. I posted the same question at StarOffice.com forum and havn't had a single response yet. Again, thanks so much guys and gals!:)

Good Luck with emachines support. Let us know how you make out!

By the way the swflash.ocx shouldn't be running when you do a CAD. That's the shockwave flash Active X control (Macromedia Flash Player) and is used to play flash content in Internet Explorer. If you do a Find on swflash.ocx it should be located in Windows\System\Macromed\Flash folder (at least in Win95 it is!). If it is really missing you can reinstall it by going to the Macromedia site using Internet Explorer:
    http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

Using a Netscape-type browser you wouldn't use swflash.ocx at all - instead you would use the npswf32.dll plugin.

Along with the great advice being offerered already. it still wouldn't hurt to run spybot and adaware again, to get rid of hotbar. And you've got Real running at load up as well. You might want to go into msconfig and uncheck that as well?
