It is a dumb question, but can I SAFELY run a Norton virus scan if I have the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect DISABLED on the taskbar?

I ran it that way by mistake and found it completed the scan in half the time it usually takes with the AutoProtect Enabled. But I wonder if it is accurate to run it this way.

Thanks to all for any help.

You can safely run the scan of your computer with it disabled. But it wont scan files downloaded, docs opened, etc. If you want to do a weekly scan of your whole computer, you can disable the auto. But I would enable it for the other times.

Thanks so much. I always have Auto Protect Enabled. But now I know that I can scan a little more quickly by disabling it. It sure goes faster that way.

You could also set Norton up to do it's scan at a time when you are not using the computer. This way it does its thing and won't slow you down while using the computer. Maybe have it run during supper or bath time. With my luck I would forget to enable it.

    :)
