When XP startup it goes to logo screen it automatically restarts. It even restarts in safe mode. I did a chkdsk /r which completed but did not fix the problem. I have seen this problem at least 10 times and the only way to solve it was to re-install and loose data. I would like to know if anyone else has had tis problem and what can I do to repair it

Yes you can do a repair install. That will keep the data and settings.

Boot from the cd "do not chose r to repair here" but chose install and select drive that has XP. When install detects an existing OS it will offer some options. Here you will chose to repair the existing windows installation.

After you have it back up get back to me and we will try to diag and stop this.
