Hope some of the others have a magic solution to this, but mine is to remove and reinstall drivers.
Have a look in Add/Remove programs, remove any modems. Go to Device Manager and remove any there.
Shut down, reseat connections (and the card if it is internal).
Restart and install the latest drivers.

It took three goes on one modem, but went from 28k to 44k now.

    Hope this helps

    Hi MCHAAK,

Have a look for your new drivers now (at 28k), you'll probably only have 1 or 2 megabytes to download. You will need to know the actual model of the modem. Try putting the model number into a search engine (I use Yahoo). This should come up with the results that include your Modem manufacturer and maybe straight to the download page.
Save the download to somewhere easy to find...like make a folder called "Modem" in C:. You may be able to download it onto a floppy.

You could just reload the drivers without reseating the modem card, but this may be a reason why it isn't functioning properly. Reseating a modem isn't too much drama, as long as you are careful. With the computer unpluged, unscrew or unclip the computer cover. Identify which card is the modem. Unscrew the retaining $crew of the card. Carefully lift the card out, holding at both ends, it may need to rock back and forth a little, but try not to touch the electronics (electrostatics can zap a processor, but not if you ground yourself by touching the metal frame). Pull it just clear of seating (slot). Then reverse the process to reseat it, making sure to keep even pressure on both ends, but not too much that it could crack the motherboard, that's the limiting factor.
Modem manufacturers generally have an installation proceedure for their cards, but your local PC repair shop may do it for nix and let you watch (or a PC knowledgable friend).

I think most of us would agree on the caps question.
I/we don't even bother to try and read the post.
So, if you are trying to attract attention, the opposite is achieved.

    MOLEHILL MOUTAIN

GEEZ !!! WHAT A BIG TODO ON MY CAPS THING! FIRST OF ALL - I CAN READ CAPS BETTER THAN THE REGULAR SIZE - HELPS ME TYPE TOO - AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FORUM TO HELP OTHERS AND ASK FOR HELP WITH PROBLEMS WITH WINDOWS I THOUGHT. I AM WELL AWARE OF THE CONVERSATIONAL STYLE RULE THAT CAPS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE USED FOR EMPHASIZNG A POINT OR WORD - AND IN SOME EXTREME FORUMS LIKE SPORTS OR POLOTICS I GUESS THEY ARE USED TO YELL. BUT IN THIS FORUM IT IS A LITTLE SILLY TO THINK THAT I OR ANYONE ELSE WOULD BE YELLING! WE ASK AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN HERE - WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO YELL? KINGSR1 :D END OF SUBJECT:)
