Can anyone tell me how to remove Windows Messenger 4.7 in XP? Going to the Windows components listing does me no good, as it's already unchecked. This version was downloaded as part of my regular updating, but I never use Messenger and want to a) keep it from booting up and showing an icon each time I turn the computer on an b) I just want it off the computer period. Can't seem to find the right place to get it off the computer permanently. Would appreciate any of you experts out there telling me the best way to remove it. Thanks! :)

I copied this from somewhere (possibly this forum) and saved it. Haven't tried it myself but your welcome to the following instructions:

    To Remove Windows Messenger 4.7

For Windows Messenger do the following:
Go to Start/Run and type the following:
    ***RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove***
Or, copy and paste it into the Open box.
    Messenger is history

Or as an alternate method go here and click on XP Tips. You'll see the vbs file listed there for downloading. I think it does the same thing as the line doubleu posted but makes it a little easier/safer I suppose.

    Cheers. :)
