The first ($86) & second ($98) CPUs are OEM or just the CPU no heatsink or fan or fancy little box from AMD the thrid ($108) cpu is a retail version or a boxed version like what you walk into a store and buy it comes with a heatsink & fan. Now look at the $86 & the $98 CPU's the $86 is the Palomino core (.18 micron I believe) and the $98 is the thoroughbred core (.13 micron I think).

Just changing the CPU you shouldn't have any problems (at least I haven't had any yet) provided that your Motherboard will support it. Remember there's always that little percentage where things can go wrong and they sometimes do.

    One thing to consider:
OEM cpus only have a 90 day warranty. The retail box has a one year warranty.

OEM warrenties vary on the source (retail outlet) usually 1 year.
As far as I know the retail box warrenty is 3 years from AMD.

Here is another fly in the ointment to confuse things more:

I think the OEM warranty on cpus over at Newegg is 15 days. But they give you option to upgrade your warranty to 1 year for an extra $5. I usually take the warranty upgrade. But I don't buy retail cpus - I don't use the stock coolers and have never needed the extra warranty coverage.

I just pruchased from Newegg for the first time and the CPU warrenty is 30 days (at least for AMD). I did go with the 1 year add on for $5 which I didn'rt see since it was the last entry in the order form process.
I really wanted the retail, not for the HSF, but for the 3 year warrenty. I don't believe in overclocking since electronics in general are being pushed to the limit as it is without pushing them further just for a ego trip and a few extra points on some benchmark program!
