I have tried to change the default font for new messages with the 'technical' stationary (arial is so boring). I can do it with individual messages, no problem once the message pane is up. But I want to change the default font. Any ideas? Thanks. Ken

    I got it done...sorta'.

In OE, go to Message>New Message Using>Select Stationery. Find Technical.htm in the list, highlight it and click on the "Edit" button. It then opened in Word on my system. I changed the font to another, typed in one character (I used a period) and then saved it (File>Save) and closed it.

Here's the trick...back in OE, when you open the new message window using that stationery, the font will show as Arial but when you delete the one character you typed in, the font changes to whatever you put in when you edited the stationery and stays that way.

Not real elegant but it works...well, it worked for me, anyway. ;)

Thanks Miz, That's the approach I had tried but never put in a character like you did. I even tried to save it under a new name and Arial just came back. Thanks again. Ken (cold ken, today)

Oops, Miz, I saved the 'technical' .html file with the font changed and the character added to the same name. It said "replace existing file? ", I said "yes ". Now when I click on new message using Technical, the 'light blue grid-pad graphics' on the page are not there anymore. Any idea why?? Any way to add the graphics back in correctly? Ken

Tools->Options->Compose gets lots of stationary and there is an option to download more from Microsoft. I cannot find a new version of 'technical.html' and the one in my directory does not have the graphics in it. It will let me create a new one, but there still are no graphics in it. When I try to open the technical.gif file it says C\Program.bmp file not found. (The stationary .gif files are in C\program files\common files\microsoft shared\stationery). In fact, all the .gif files in that folder will not open because of the same error message about .bmp not found. Puzzles me.

Sounds like it's trying to open with a program that doesn't exist...or it's just confused (hey, it happens).

To open the gif file, hold down the shift key while RIGHT clicking on the file. That will give you "Open with" as one of the menu items. Choose that and then choose a graphics program to open it with (I used Irfanview).

    When the gif opens, you'll see it's tiny: 20 X 20 pixels, 256 colors.

If the grid lines are no longer there, you could make another gif file using the above specifications and put it into the same folder with the stationery...being sure to name it "tech.gif" so the technical stationery will be able to find it.

OK, got it now. Opened the tech.gif with right click as you suggested. Realized it was just 'one' lt. blue square. Went back to the tools->compose and retraced the create new. There is pulldown in there to tile the parent .gif, and that created the gridpad look which had been named 'technical' stationery. Without the tiling, the page just looked blank because the graphic was so small (20 x 20 pixels). Thanks for your help, Miz & Steve, I feel like a stationery expert now.
