I remember they used to be "dangerous" or so I was told. Should I be weary of upgrading?

    Thanks!

Best way to put it is, "It All Depends "

Were, are and probably still will be if you don't know what you are doing. Piece of Cake, if you do.

Best bet to save your butt is an IOSS Bios Savior - comes with a blank or pre-programmed bios and permits you to plug your chip on top. Then, a handy little toggle switch lets you go back and forth at will. Great for the adventurous, "lets try this one" type individual or the timid type trying to fix a problem without ******** up their machine. Think you can still find them real cheap at Computer Geeks or go to Eskit Data in Sweden for a couple of different models and full support (fast shippers to the US too). If all else fails, get a pre-programmed chip with the bin file of your choice from www.Badflash.com

    ;)

well my motherboard is an asus and i want to upgrade to 1007 revision

...i wouldn't think it sounds dangerous... but they warn you on their website that if it ain't broke.... don't f*ing break it!

baltman--Unless the 1007 revision is described by ASUS as curing a specific problem you have or offering some advantage you know you want, I think you have answered your own question
"but they warn you on their website that if it ain't broke.... don't f*ing break it! "

haha yeah i guess you're right. i won't try it until i'm ready to upgrade to the newer processor, which requires the upgraded bios.

I was advised by HP Support to update my bios just after I bought this box. Since it was under warranty and would be their neck at risk, I presumed it was fairly safe. I followed their directions and it went without a hitch.

btw, the board HP supplied is an ASUS P4S-LA with a SIS-650 chip set.

    :)
