Can anyone advise the difference between PCI conpliance v2.1 and v2.2.

I've just bought a Belkin USB 4-port PCI board. On their site it says PCI v2.1, needed, On the box it says v2.2.

My computer is v2.1 compliant, Any problems likely?

    Alanf,

After some thorough research , I may have the answer.

PCI v2.1 data is transferred across the PCI bus at 33MHZ and 32 bits at a time. The Bandwidth is 33.333MHZ x 4Bytes=133MB/Sec.

PCI v2.2 data is transferred across the PCI bus at 66MHZ and 64 bits at a time. The Bandwidth is 66.666MHZ x 8Bytes=533MB/Sec.

64 bit versions are found primarily in Server Motherboards.

The Slots of the two versions are totally different. The 64 bit PCI v2.2 in my book shows it to be half again as long as the 32 bit version.

So it seems to me that the v2.2 is for Servers.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Thanks for that info, much appreciated!

I've checked my PCI slots and the board is an exact fit, so that would seem to settle it. I am assuming that the board is, as their site suggess, version 2.1 compliant.

Presumably the reference to version 2.2 was/is a misprint on the box.

I am going to install it now.
