On my computer at work, I was using the disk cleaning utilities to remove some files and programs that I never use. However, somehow I removed Solitaire, Character Map, Freecell, Sound Volume, and Paintbrush.

I tried to find those files on my computer's recovery CD and on the Windows 98SE Upgrade disk, but no such luck. Then, using a 1.44mb floppy, I simply copied those files from another computer in the office.

After copying those back to my hard drive in the appropriate folder, Solitaire, Character Map, Freecell, and Sound Volume all worked fine. Paintbrush, however, will not open. In fact, if I click on it, there's no response at all.

I've tried everything I know to do to get it back. I really need to get Paintbrush back because I have to use it sometimes to edit images before I insert them in documents.

As I said before, the only software I have that would contain this file is the HP Recovery disk and a Windows 98SE Upgrade disk.

What can I do to restore Paintbrush to my hard drive? And, why will the copied Paintbrush not work or not open on my computer?

MS Turkeyhunter--Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|Windows Setup tab|highlight Accessories|Click Details|Check the box "Paint "|click OK. I do not think you need your Win98 CD, but see if you are asked. If so you may be able to restore from C:\Windows\Options\Cabs.

Welshjim, thanks for the reply. That fixed me right up!

You know, after reading your reply, I remembered how to do that...I'd done it a long time ago and had forgotten.

If I had a dime for everything I've forgotten, man I'd be a rich man!
