    Hello.

I am trying to install directx 9 and gets this message:

    " Error creating process
<C:\docume~1\0924~1\locals~1\temp\IXP000.TMP\Redist.exe>. Reason: The system cannot find the path specified. "

I have win xp pro, service pack 1.

Same thing happens with other apps I try to install to.

Anybody know the solution to this problem ?

    Thanks in advance, Balle Klorin.

    Hey

Are you using any apps that disable long file or 8.3 file name creation??

That may be what is causing your problem.

    Hope this helps.

Balle - I've seen this issue mentioned before but couldn't find any details with lots of searching. So I'm groping here a little - a lot really.

I think there is a problem with either the InstallShield app or with your permissions. Try the following. Can't hurt and may stop your problem.

    1. Empty your temp folders (should be at least 2 with contents) and your temporary internet folder.

    2. Open a cmd prompt and do sfc /scannow which will take care of some potential file issues. You'll need the XP install CD or to have the I386 folder on your hard drive somewhere.

    3. Check your system drive for errors. If any show up, run the check again but tell it to fix problems. That will require a reboot.

    4. Make sure the account you are logged on with when you try the installs has administrator rights.

If none of that helps, post back with results. Maybe somebody else has a better memory than I do.

Sorry it took some days to answer this.
Thanks for the advise Callanan and Newt, but I am sorry to say this hasnt changed anything.
I cannot imagine that I use any apps that disable long file or 8.3 file name creation.
I tried your solutions to Newt, but no luck.

About permissions: I can install anything I want exept the exefiles with the icon with the picture of a cardboardbox and a window (hope you know what I mean).
And I suppose that is the exefiles that uses InstallShield to install.

How can I reinstall InstallShield ? or maybe configure InstallShield ?

    Thanks again.
    B

You might take a look Here.

If you can find any mention of the problem in your event logs, the site has an error section where you can look up InstallShield issues by error number.

I have not been able to find any error number.

    BUT:

As I told you, I got this error message:

    " Error creating process
<C:\docume~1\0924~1\locals~1\temp\IXP000.TMP\Redist.exe>. Reason: The system cannot find the path specified. "

I did a search for redist.exe on my computer, and found it in
    C:\Documents and Settings\# 1\Local Settings\Temp\IXP000.TMP

After opening this file I had no problem installing directx9. Media player wouldnt install either, so I did the same thing there, and now I have wm9 too.

Does this help you helping me in any way ?

    Thanks again, B.
