    I believe Netscape has released this "Base" Version because users seem to prefer the alternatives:

    Netscape Compact

    SillyDog701 Streamline

    The Official Netscape Base Version contains:
    Navigator
    Mail/News & Instant Messaging (needed for Web Mail)
    Spell Checker

    A Custom Install gives the opportunity to deselect the following:
    Quality Feedback Agent
    AOL Art Extensions
    Flash player
    HP Printer plugin
    Canadian region pack

    It does not contain:
    Java
    Real
    WinAmp
    Viewpoint
