I didn't find much on this query using the search function.
When doing my daily Windows update, mainly to get the most current Security Essentials virus updates, I got the notification that it was also updating to KB5048239. Update history showed that it successfully updated.
I didn't give that much thought until I went to Windows update again, and it showed that update again.
A quick Google search showed that that is apparently a problem with Microsoft, and not with anybody's computer.
So I did a more in depth check in Update History, and found that it was successfully updated earlier on 11/12/2024. So I guess my questions would be: did it actually update on the earlier date? And if so, why is it attempting to update it again?

Hi, Just Google KB5048239 for the latest info.
Most users just ignore this as it's a problem MS developed themselves over a year ago.
My W 10 Pro 64bit OS just updated with the latest WU without any mention of KB5048239.;)

Thanks for the info; I'll try to do some more reading on it. So it's best to just ignore it, and maybe it'll just go away? Doesn't sound like there is any real fix except to do that. I was considering pausing updates, but that doesn't seem like a very "safe" option. The only real issue is the extended time it takes when I use Windows Update. Oh well.

First off, I'm not a computer "junkie". By that I mean I'm just an everyday user, and I do what I can to keep everything running issue free, and as smoothly as possible.
So, as suggested, after doing some more reading, I'm guessing that my options are to do nothing, and just ignore the update constantly showing up. Or download the Microsoft Update "Hide or Show" tool, which for guys like me might just be introducing another place to cause trouble. Or is deleting the update file from 11/12/2024, and letting it reinstall from the recent Windows Update an option? Too many choices.

I'm guessing that means that I should do something, and I plan to. I'm just looking for some knowledgeable advice so I pick the best option, and don't make any more trouble for myself.

This WRE Update would not install due to insufficient space in users Recovery Partition in Storage drive.(HDD/SSD).
MS has advised users how to increase the Recovery Partition size and if you want to do this, Google will point you in the right direction or MS Updates will enable the info.
I haven't bothered and the Update does not show on my comp. Personal choice.;)

I'm still confused. Windows Update shows that that update was successfully installed on 11/12/2024. So what's going on now that it wants to install it again? I wish I was half as sharp as most of you on this forum.

What I meant by that is that I do nothing!

I have a DeskTop which does NOT have a Recovery Partition. It gets the update every now and then but according to Microsoft, it shouldn't and I don't bother.

I have a LapTop on which the Recovery Partition is too small and the update can't be installed, unless the size of the Recovery Partition is increased. That has not and will not happen but it still gets the update every now and then.

The update is a mess but I don't bother anymore.

So, first off, I'd like to thank everybody who took the time to respond.
I have discovered that I automatically know what needs attention, and what needs to worry me. It's issues like this one I tend to question.
So here's my final update: after running Windows update this morning, the questionable update wasn't listed. So I went back into download history, and was able to verify that it was successfully installed on11/12/2024 as mentioned earlier, but also successfully installed on 1/14/2025. I don't know the why about any of this, but I'm hoping that this little episode has come and gone. Hopefully!
So thanks again for the help and advice.
