Error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017, The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase
For Evan and RetiredLearner: Would it be too much to ask if you both could take a look at this webpage which in the little video tells how to alter the Citrix VDA? I would like your opinions as to whether I should try it or not.

If you have Citrix VDA installed then it makes sense why you would be getting that blue screen error code. You should remove the program and then see if you can upgrade Windows 11 to the 24H2 version.

Hi Mary, A question. Did you install the Citrix Software?
If it has been installed as a Software program, it will show in > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
I would click on it and use the Uninstall feature to remove it from there.
From Googling, I gather it's used to operate the PC remotely.
None of my comps have this Software installed.

Thank you for responding. No, I did not install the Citrix software, it must have come already on the computer from HP. I did re-check to make sure it wasn't in the program list in programs. It was not there. Evan Omo said to remove the program and then see if I can upgrade to Windows 11 24H2. I have several things that I need to get done in the next ten days, but am going to try to work on this when I get a break. I think you both are correct in believing that it is an unnecessary program installed on my computer. As the Windows Club contributor said, you would need to go into the registry to find it.

Further to my Post #23, my son said the bank that he was employed at about 10 years ago used the Citrix software for branch communication before switching to Zoom.
So unless you work remotely with a group or club, uninstall it as it may be your prime cause of your problem.;)

Evan and RetiredLearner: I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!! I followed the steps suggested in the video. In the registry there was a CLS listed which I highlighted and set the start from 0 to 4. The other part of the fix was supposed to be in the "upperfilter" and was to be deleted, it was not there. So thought by changing the first part that maybe it might work. It turned out the same as before with the install failing with the same error. I have tried everything I can think of, I will do a search again for the error and see it I can come up with anything else. Thank you two guys for your support.

It looks like you are going to have to perform a clean install or find a local computer technician who can look at that computer and remove the program which will allow the new version to install. There is not much that we can do from our end unfortunately.

Retiredlearner and Evan: Thank you both for your time to respond and caring about helping me. I will try the new solution that Retiredlearner suggested first and if that does not work for me I will have to document what programs I have that I will lose, so I can find them again and reinstall. Possibly for the 2019 Excel Suite, I can contact Microsoft and get that reinstalled by furnishing the key. I have external hard drives to use to backup all of my personal files and put them back on when it updates. It was just the programs that I use and my CCleaner that I purchased that I was worried about. My Ccleaner has a built in VPN called Kamo that came with it. That might be what is interfering with the installation. I will see if I can temporarily turn it off to try to install the OS again. I will keep you guys informed if I succeed in any of this in case someone else has the same problem.

Mary, Just received this info on my phone. This is about Citrix causing the problem.

Update is failing as it's unable to update some drivers while Session Recording 2411 is installed.
To disable the Session Recording Monitoring service, follow these steps:
Go into the Services Management Console by pressing Win + R, typing services.msc, and pressing Enter.
Scroll down until you see Citrix Session Recording Monitor Service.
Right-click on the service and select Properties.
Click the Stop button to stop the service, and once stopped, set it to "Disabled" and press the OK button.
You can now install the January Windows updates.
When the updates are installed, enable the service by repeating the above steps, but this time setting it to "Automatic" and then clicking the Start button.
Citrix also shared steps for disabling the service through PowerShell and the Windows Command Prompt.
The latest Windows updates should now be installed, and you are protected from the latest security vulnerabilities.

Thank you, Retiredlearner for doing more research for me. I have printed out the instructions. The next few days are going to be too busy to try this, but should be able to work on it on this weekend. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! I will let you know and I need to be positive!! This solution is going to fix this!!

When I went into the services.msc, Citrix wasn't listed at all. This software must not be on my computer, so it can't be causing the problem. I sure appreciate the extra effort you have done to get me some answers. I am not sure what to try next. My husband keeps telling me that I should just order a new computer. There is nothing wrong with this one, so hate to spend the money. Just hope I could figure out why Windows Update is not working for me. Thank you again for trying.
