For the past 10 years I have successfully networked my Win 10 PC to my Win10 laptop, but the Win 10 PC became cranky and was replaced by a Win 11 PC a few months ago. I am currently attempting to network the Win 11 PC to the Win 10 laptop and have run into difficulties in that I have had no success.

Both computers are connected to the router via CAT cables – the router was rebooted a couple of days ago on my return from an extended Christmas visit.

Both computers are on a Local Account with the same user name and password on each.

The appropriate drives on the 2 computers are shared with all permissions checked for all users.

Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing are turned on on both computers.

The Win 11 PC only shows only the Realtek network card, but the laptop shows the Huawei network card AND the Win 11 PC, but will not connect to it – ‘Windows cannot access \\DESKTOP-2024’.

I’ve Googled the problem extensively without any real success – so many of the hits relate to WiFi networks - I don’t have WiFi on the Desktop.

Any help/suggestions as to how to resolve this issue much appreciated. My brain is considerably less agile than it was 10 years ago !

It was a sharing issue on the Windows 11 PC - I think that I had inadvertently shared both the data drive and the data folder containing the data. My memory not so good these days and it may have been that the drive was not shared, but the data folder on the drive was shared.
