    Hello,

Please forgive my sob story... We had to buy a new PC for my wife, Eliza, a few years back. It came with an SSD boot drive, amazingly fast from power-on to login.

Then, my wife of 53+ years passed away.

Shortly afterwards, my older HP Envy crashed, due to something I did in combination with Norton's Power Eraser...

I couldn't get online here [Arie finally fixed that] and tried to revive my PC, as it seemed it should have been easy. It gave me a login screen, just like normal, but wouldn't allow me to log in.
So, I finally broke down and started using Eliza's PC and transferred all necessary stuff from my backup HDs, one Seagate and one WD.

But the C drive on her PC is only 128 GB with 9GB available. The D has more than 900 GB available.
I can't do a Windows update due to insufficient space.
I am trying to figure out how to move already installed applications from C to D without uninstalling and reinstalling or hacking the registry. [I'm too old now to use RegEdit; 20 years ago, I might have done it...]

Can anybody tell me if it can be done easily - I have RevoUninstaller installed, if that matters. Also, with the built-in protection Windows has, do I still need Norton 360 or Norton Utils? Removing those two could give me back some space.

Again, please forgive my epic saga of eternal torment, and if you can help me, please take pity on me.

    Thank you all, very much,
    -a.

You can uninstall anything that pertains to Norton. Windows defender is great and will do a good job of protecting your computer. Can you look and see what is on the D drive Usually that is the original OS that is on the PC. The original OS is also your C drive where you do all the work from.

Run "Disk Cleanup" to remove unneeded temp files....

In Windows Explorer, right click on C drive and select Properties. You should see the Disk Cleanup button.

As for cleaning up the drives, I've been doing that regularly, to try and get Windows updates installed. I suspect that removing Norton's stuff will give me more space. I'll let you know.

Thank you for responding to my call for help. Truly, I appreciate it.

    Meanwhile ...

As for my old PC, here is one photo from the infinite loop login screen. It just cycles through this. I can't get into the repair screens anymore.

Hi Alex, Have you tried the 3 HARD Shut down and Start process?
If you Start your comp and then Press and Hold the Start button when the loop shows.
Then do this 3 times, it should then allow the Repair system to operate.
    It's worth a try.;)

I've actually tried a few variations on that theme. I'll have to plug it in and attach a monitor and the like, since3 I' disabled it due to being so ticked off.

Did I mention that Norton's Power Eraser was integral to the PC going down? I can't explain it but it al happened after using it and my stupidity was when it asked about deleting any Restore Points I foolishly said Yes. I'd trusted Norton's stuff for years, even after I stopped being a beta tester for them. So, my trust led me down the rabbit hole.

Sometime this weekend I hope to have time to try your method and report back.

thank you so very much. Hapy Thanksgiving!

Just a note: I've removed all Norton stuff from my PC. It's been nagging at my back-mind for a while, that Windows doesn't need Norton anymore, given the quality of the built-in protection and the free ancillary goodies. So far, so good.

BTW, Revo Uninstaller is excellent for cleaning up after removing applications. IMHO.
    Thanks again,
