Have an older Toshiba Satellite Pro c650 running WIN10Pro64 with a 750GB SSD and 16GB RAM. I ******* up some time ago and deleted several important windows files, and in the process of trying to restore things, I further (messed) up and wound up with the basic WIN10 installation. Ashampoo is most forgiving and I was able to reinstall the backup program, and while I do have an older Ashampoo backup disk available to restore things, in order to do this and restore the C:\ drive with all the programmes I need to utilize the "Rescue" program which requires me to access the BIOS and be sure that the WIN-PI USB I created can be the first thing read on boot-up. Aftere that it's supposed to be "Easy-Peasy".

I have tried everything I can find online, in manuals, etc. to get into the BIOS. No joy.

The key is supposed to be power-off> power-on and press F2 key (or press F12 key), intermittently or continuously, hoping that the BIOS access screen will appear, but like Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, it never appears.

They say that the measure of insanity is repeating the same action over and over and hoping for a different result. If that's so, I'm now certifiably kookoo.

I had thought I'd made this plea here back in November, but a search shows me nothing, so I throw myself on your collective tender mercies.

    Buehler?

    Buehler?

I have seen where the type of PC said what F key to use and it was wrong. Have you tried any other F keys to see if that will work.

    A Google found this suggestion:
    1. Turn computer off
    2. Now press and hold the F2 key
    3. With the F2 key still press, press the power button
    4. When the system lights turn on, release the F2 key.
    5. Now you may sometimes see the Toshiba Logo, or you may not. The system will still enter into the BIOS.

    Another suggestion:

    Step 1: Shutdown the laptop.

Step 2: Drain all its power by removing the battery and pressing the power button.

Step 3: Put the battery back, switch on the laptop, and press F2. And Voila! You get BIOS.

Tried ALL the "F" keys (no pun intended) and get nothing back for it. One time, the F12 key gives me a "wait momentarily" message (or it may be "tear your hair out violently") but n, nothing works. Tried them all:

Shut off power>press "F2">restart power>> (a) hold F2 key until something happens {1}(usually either the sign-on screen comes up or I get a blank screen) >>(b) press "F2", engage power and tap "F2" repeatedly until {1}.

    MOST frustrating.

    Thanks for the post, tho'.

Well, (A) is what I was trying over and over and over, so, no, no joy there.
    (B) has produced only a pinched thumb when I mis-installed the battery, but no joy other than getting to see the bottom of my laptop for a change.

Guys, gotta say that this is a really loony-making thing. How hard should it be to start up in BIOS? I'm about ready to just replace the bloody machine and go from there.

Again, thanks for the time to look things up and make suggestions!

One question: "when the system lights turn on..." Whast would this refer to? The only indicator lights I see are the power and battery indicators which are always on (hopefully!) but the next "lights" are the idiot whirly-dots which preceed the sign-in screen. Maybe I'm just too stoopit to run one of these.

The "F" key to use should be either F2 or F8.
Tapping rapidly on the Key maybe necessary for 20 seconds or more.

Can you provide the EZ numbers for your Laptop to narrow down the search?
Also, was this laptop upgraded to Windows10 from an original Windows7?

This info is from the Toshiba Owners Manual.

Well I am guessint that they didn't try any of the other F keys like I suggested. Seen this work before even though the manufacture didn't list it as one of the options.

    Esc Method
Another approach you can try if you don't see a prompt to press F2 or F12 is to press and hold the Esc key for three seconds when you switch on your laptop. This action brings up a prompt for you to press the F1 key, which takes you to the BIOS menu.

If this doesn't work, try holding down the Esc key before you switch on your laptop. The laptop beeps to inform you of an error, and then it prompts you to press F1 to get into BIOS.

Yet another method for when the others don't work involves pressing the Esc key on bootup and then pressing F2 to enter the BIOS menu.

It may take some experimentation to find the right method if it isn't indicated on the startup screen or in any of the documentation for your specific laptop model.

    650-EZ1520D System Unit

Bought as WIN7PRO64, upgraded about the time that the free ugrades became available on the "insider" program.

Ram upgraded to 16MB last year
Bill, I've tried ALL the "F"n keys from 1 thru 12... you saw this work before... on Toshiba equipment?

I have seen other posts over the years on different message boards that I was on and have helped at a Jr. College refirb PC and yes somethimes other keys have worked. And sometimes we never were able to get into the bios. Those PC's were stripped of the good stuff and trashed the rest.

Have you tried Steve's suggestion yet?
Holding the ESC key while pressing the POWER button on my HP laptop worked as advised.

TRied that. Power On > ESC key, Power On AND ESC key, ESC > Power On.

Tried that series several times and salted in an F2, an F8 and a F12 in some places, but each time the computer jus comes up with the pretty picture of a lake and a couple of abandoned backpacks (makes one wonder about the owners, dunnit?) for sign-on.

I know there has to be a combination of keys that allows access to BIOS, but damifican find 'em.

    Will leave this open.

This is copied from the Owners Manual and is the only reference I found about entering BIOS.
Note the wording about when the initial TOSHIBA screen displays.

Well, * I F * an initial Toshiba screen appeared, it might be a reasonable procedure, but again, when I try ay of these suggestions, there is no "initial" screen that appears.

    Molto Confusado!

Are you using the lappy's keyboard or an external one?

    If external - unplug it.

Following Steve's Post, we are assuming that the laptop has nothing other than the charger plugged into it.
Then the possibility might be a faulty laptop keyboard as you have had no success with any of the keys suggested.
