I was playing a game - Fallout New Vegas, and tried to save my game. Got a message I never have before in the many years I've been playing. I get a message that "No storage device is detected". Neither autosave nor manual saves work. I checked the FalloutNV folder in My Games and it was set to read only. I unselected that on both folders. When I went back, however, Read Only was selected again. I checked under security and and both mine and administrator (also me) have full control. I saw something about Windows Defender causing issues due to Ransomware settings, but I can't access that. When I try, I get a message that my IT administrator has limited access to the app. I thought I was the admin? I also use Bitdefender. That has ransomware protection, but all I can do there is turn it off and on, I can't add folders to an exception list (just programs). Other games that save to My Games seem to be saving okay, but not sure why I can't change this to read only, and want to make sure this isn't the start of something bigger. Thanks.

Try changing ownership of the folder to yourself.

Hi, I clicked on Take Ownership and a Dos box came up and ran some text. I then tried again to remove read only, but as soon as I'm done, Read Only is checked again.

Does the box have a Black Square or is it Checked?

Have you tried to manually copy a file to the folder?

It looks like a blue box that's checked for Read Only.
It shows me as owner, and I have all permissions checked; Full Control, Modify, Read & execute, etc upload_2023-12-9_10-13-31.png

    Hi,

Have you tried temporarily uninstalling Bitdefender and seeing if that solves the issue?

You might also try Performing a clean boot in Windows and see if that makes any difference.

Hi, Thanks for the assistance. I uninstalled Bitdefender and rebooted. Same issue. I remove Read Only and it just goes back. I restarted in a clean environment and same thing.

Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the game completely and see if that works.

I uninstalled the game, including all saves config files, etc. and so far at least, it seems to have worked! After reinstalling, I can save my game without any error messages. Thank you all for your help!
