Is there a way, preferably with a single keyboard shortcut, or simple click, a row can essentially be "struck" from a database, visually as well as removed from the sum (or any other calcs), but remain showing as having been struck?

For instance, I have a list of items, with subtotals and totals, with hundreds of items/rows. Many of these need to have the equivalent of striking them through with a red marker. In other words, what has been struck needs to remain visible, but show that it has been struck (say, with a red line strikethrough), but needs to be removed from the total.

I did a search; there are plenty of ways to change the font to a strikethrough format, but I didn't see any which also remove those rows from the sum.

Sure, individual cells can be cut and moved, in the list, say, from one column to another, but this would take additional time. Seems to me, Excel would be smart enough to have a strikethrough / remove command, of sorts.

    Does it exist?

Strange that Excel has no way of doing this - seems like a basic "redline" function.

I appreciate that user-defined routine. If I read it correctly, I would use the excstrike function directly in place of the sum function? I could technically put a separate column with the excstrike function results in it, so as to leave the sum functions in tact. I might eventually seek to remove the strikes but at first, I have an estimate where I want them to see exactly what I removed, before I ultimately remove it. I want to see my new numbers, though, not depend on them to run the numbers and wait for a new version to see what they are.

Thanks, I will try this out.

    Another Excel question -

What's the best way to convert a text-based PDF to Excel spreadsheet, without access to full Acrobat? Any good tricks? I tried doing a "save as" with the Reader free version and it didn't work.

Many online/offline utilities are available for it but it's mostly hit & miss affair.

Search for pdf to excel convertor on net & you would get hundreds of hits. Choose your poison from them.

Or you can try it from Excel itself (I am using Office 365. Your mileage may vary).

    1. Open a new blank sheet in Excel
    2. Select Data -> Get Data -> From File -> From PDF
    3. Select file & click ok
    4. Depending on the size of file, it could take some time to show you the result.
    5. You can select data that you want to import & click Transform Data
    6. Another window would open with your data. Close this window & click Keep when prompted.
    7. The data would be imported into your spreadsheet.

These are the basic steps. Please feel free to try other things in the options as you become more advanced.

    Hope it helps
