SSD drive in external enclosure - loses connection on certain files?

I have an SSD drive from a computer which was destroyed. I removed the main drive, a 250GB SSD, put it in a Ugreen enclosure, which did allow me to access the files - mostly.

I have found 3 files, in 3 different folders, which cause the drive to disconnect if I try to access them. That is the mystery. If I unplug the drive's USB cable, then plug it right back in, I can see the drive again, but nothing else I have found seems to reconnect the computer, except for restarting windows.

Sure, 3 files, in themselves, is not a huge problem for a recovery, and I could live without the 3 files. However, I can't access two of the folders at all because when explorer settles on the file in question to view, the drive disconnects. So if there aren't many files in the folder, I can't access the others without "seeing" the problem file.

What I'm curious about is - why the disconnect? I've had files not accessible, before, but they never caused a whole drive to disconnect. What might be doing this? And how might I solve? I'm as curious for this recovery, as I am for LEARNING how to deal with such issues in the future.

I might have suspected the SSD, itself, having been damaged, but the fact it's JUST these 3 files, out of thousands I've accessed, suggests it's more of file corruption problem (unsure why or when this occurred). But, again, why that would cause a disconnect, I don't know.

Also, is there a way to reset the connection to the device, so I don't have to pull out the USB cable each time to get it to reconnect?

Meanwhile, is there a way to get explorer (or another program) not to do any access to the files, thus allowing me to copy the others, which are OK? Apparently listing the file in a directory doesn't cause the disconnect, only when the OS tries to access contents of the file.

    It's a bit of a mystery I'm curious about.

What is/are the name of the Folder(s) ?

Is My Documents one of the folders? If so you probably need to take Ownership of the folder. (you can google that)

Odds are you're getting disconnected instead of receiving and Error Message.

They're files on the desktop, under users/admin/desktop/... So, no, not My Documents. In fact, I managed to copy files under My Documents just fine. They're in two subfolders under one folder where I have images stored, and one other folder under the desktop. Each of the 3 files giving me trouble are .jpg files, and all other files in the directories in which they are held seem to be OK.

All other files I've tried to access on the drive have posed no problem.

Maybe, but this seems unrelated, since I successfully gained access to 99.9+% of the files; and only 3 of them, out of thousands, caused the disconnect upon any sort of access.

Why would I be able to access, copy, delete, rename, etc, all except for several, if it were an overall access problem? Unless somehow only those 3 files had a higher access requirement than the others (in which case, it still begs the question why the drive disconnects, as opposed to simply denying access)

    I'm open to any suggestions.

For the record, I did try claiming ownership. As predicted, it made no difference. Accessing those specific files caused disconnect same as before.

    More things to try.
    A different USB port.

Are you double clicking on the file to open it?
Try opening the program you’re using first then from within it open the file.

Ugreen enclosures have had problems with disconnects and reconnecting but seems like that’d be more generic – can you copy the files to another drive?
