I have a desktop PC with a Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256 GB hard drive which has the operating system (Windows 8.1) and also a partition for data. The data partition is not being picked up by file explorer and so I cannot access the data. I have a replacement laptop PC with USB C and USB 3 ports. What's the best way to connect the desktop SSD drive to the laptop PC to see if I can see the SSD partition via the laptop?

The best way most likely is to remove SSD from the PC and use an enclosure or a USB adapter to access it from the laptop.

Thank you Bill. Does the adapter need a power source? Or will the USB C do that?

It depends on the specific adapter you chose. If it needs one, it will come with it.
