It's not a bad idea to turn off fast startup one in a while, to completely shut down the PC is it?

If you switch off the power supply at the wall socket overnight, would that not achieve the same outcome?

    Why?

It is not a "bad" idea in the sense it will hurt anything if you turn it off. But I see nothing to suggest it is a "bad" idea leave fast startup enabled - forever.

Ummm, it is important to remember that much of the world, including all of North America, do NOT have switched wall sockets like they do in some other parts of the world.

But to your point, yes, if you remove all power from the computer, including standby power, that would clear out the Fast Startup data. So for those of us in the U.S. for example, to remove the ATX Form Factor required +5Vsb standby power being used to keep Fast Startup data alive, we simply must flip the Master power switch on the back of the power supply (if it has one) or unplug the power supply from the wall. And a few seconds is long enough.

HOWEVER, again, I see no reason to do that. It is not like corrupt or unwanted data will get "stuck" in Fast Startup and cause problems. In fact, even a simple reboot (without disconnecting from the wall) is enough to reset most Fast Startup data.

For the vast majority of users, Fast Startup is a good thing. And for the vast majority of those other users, a simple reboot fixes their rare problems.

So why would anyone want to disable it? I guess if they want to wait longer for their computers to boot!
