I have been using Amoei Backupper for backing my computers & my clients' too. Solid solution.

Don't depend on MS Backup solutions as they keep on changing it depending on their whims.

I need to report the status. I had installed Macrium and created an image on an 500Gb SSD external drive. Macrium somehow "broke" my LogMeIn connection to my home. I started working on that. There was no System Restore made so I didn't have that to go back to. But, I had an image, right? I tried to use it but Macrium tells me that the image drive format of the image IT created is in GPT format and that it is unsupported!! ***!! So I now have an image that is seemingly useless and my problems just keep piling up! Macrium Free provides NO support at all.

I am lost. Seriously. Any suggestion would be great appreciated.

I am now thinking that a Windows Repair Install may be the only answer. Your thoughts? How does one do that with an OEM Windows Pro install (upgraded Windows 7)? Thanks!

It's a universal problem. GPT is a new format and is not compatible with the older MBR format. Cross restore is not supported by any backup app AFAIK.

Thanks for the info. My question is why would Macrium take an image in GPT and then not support it. That is just lame. At least a message stating that one is about to do so with "these" consquences would seem to be the minimum professional effort. So much has happend with this since then. Including moving the image to another drive, reformating the GPT to MBR and putting it back. Merry Christmas!!

As I understand it, MBR was Legacy usage before UEFI became the norm.
MBR has a limitation with partitions and Disk capacity.
GPT has no problems with the number of Partitions or the size of the storage disk.
I had to make an MBR to GPT change some time back when setting up an SSD from HDD.
I cant answer your question about Macrium. Sorry. Merry Xmas.

Any disk image program should work only if you try to restore to a new disk or blank disk. Is there any data/partition on the disk where you are restoring ?
