    Hello all,

I was browsing (Firefox) the web, right-clicked on a photo and downloaded it. The file ended up in the "downloads" folder. I double-clicked the file and it opened in Microsoft Photos. The resolution was too low so, I decided to delete the photo. I did so from within Microsoft Photos. The photo disappeared and the next photo in the "downloads" folder appeared. Next, I closed Microsoft Photos. The file did not end up in the Recycle Bin.

Now, When I open the "downloads" folder, the file is still there. I can re-try to delete it but nothing happens. When double-clicked, it opens in Microsoft Photos.

When I shift-right-click and choose "open a PowerShell-window", run the "dir" command, the file shows up. When I run the "del" command followed by the file name (copy-paste) I get the message:

    del : Cannot find path 'E:\Hämtade filer\H4sIAAAAAAAAAC2Vy87lSA3Hz3RrmBESMwI0QrxAC2kkXLkni0_AMDtYIIFY0ItWJalbqnI55UrynT

This indicates that the file is gone but it still shows up in the "downloads" folder and still opens in Microsoft Photos. The filename is very long which may have contributed to the problem:

I have tried to clear all cashes and temp-folders, should it linger there.

I speculated that it may have something to do with the registry but rather than messing around , I post this thread and ask if someone knows what has happened and how to fix it?

What happens when you high light the file and right click and DELETE?

And or reboot and then try to delete it through Win Explorer.

Steve, what you suggest has already been tried. The file is "dead" apart from the fact that it's still opening.

I seem to remember a method that deletes a file on the next reboot. It's DOS-based and I have used it in the past with success. I'll search the web for it later.

Windows 10 warned me not to run the app but I did and it worked fine!

I doubted it would since previous attempts informed me that the file does not exist . Some "remnant" obviously did and DeleteOnReboot fixed it.

The app is stored for future use.

    Thanks again, Steve!
