MS is trying to install an update, but apparently it's failing. When it tries to do the reboot, it gets to the dot-chasing screen and never finishes. I have to do a hardware reset to get it to boot up and I get a message that the update didn't install. I'd rather not get the updates as they usually cause more trouble than they fix, but I cannot find where to turn them off. I recall (I think) that you used to have control over what updates you got, but I can't find where to opt out. It appears that MS is going to update your stuff whether you like it or not. So, can I (A) turn the updates off or (B) do something to allow the update to install. At this time it has tried 4 times in the last 4 nights to install and it's looking like it's not going to stop.

    Hi,

What build of Windows 10 do you have installed? Click Start< type winver in the Start Menu search box and hit enter and the About Windows page will open.

You can pause updates in Settings > System > Windows Update > Pause Updates.
You can uninstall an update if there is a problem.
You can also try the install by going into Safe Mode.
Have tried shutting down the comp and leaving it overnight before trying a Restart the next day?

Update that was trying to install was 21H2. In the process of trying to get into safe mode and the restarts that ensued, the update installed. Go figure. BTW, I never got to safe mode.
