This problem seems to a be a networking problem. 104 errors have to do with TCP connection resets. Th error can be generated in many ways, due to varying things, but the error is generated by software or the operating system itself. A server, for varying reasons, wrong or right, can send a TCP reset message to a computer and a 104 error results.

    Common reasons are:
The server has closed the connection even though the connection never actually completed. (connection time outs)
The server is mis-configured somehow, or has its own slows and internal erroring going on.
The user's networking setup is mis-configured, e.g. using a proxy connection, vpn or other routing anomalies caused by the LAN router or browser add-ons such as Firefox "force https mode", ad blockers or other browser ad-ons.

Also, the computer or router DNS settings could bring about 104 errors.

    Hi Tony!!
Wow, that is a lot to process! Thanks!

    Where do I start??
Do you think my sfc issues are relevant here? Ideas?
Your last paragraph focuses on the server. I am not sure if this is relevant but this is a stand-alone desktop computer and is not networked, per se. I use the std DNS addresses, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

There could be corrupted or offset networking core stuff in the operating system. You could try resetting all of the windows networking components.

I'd uninstall the mazda tools software. Then open a command prompt as administrator (rt click > run as admin) and after each command typed press Enter key.

    Commands:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /renew
    netsh int ip reset
    netsh winsock reset
    netsh advfirewall reset

Reboot after running the above. Then reinstall the mazda software and see if it works.

If get any errors running the commands above then you'll need to repair system files using SFC.

Everything went smoothly except for the Mazda app throwing the same 104 error. It happens when the app starts and attempts to check for updates.

I didn't use a browser. I instead put the download from my computer on a flash drive and used that. That way I elimated my computer as a source of a defective download.

I just emailed a support request to that 3rd party vendor. I did underscore Windows 7 to them and that Mazda says their minimum required version is 7. See what they say.

Meanwhile, any suggestions on getting my sfc to clear? I tried to run sfc from the WRE on an original disc but it didn't like that much. It said wrong version and it may be a retail disc vs an OEM install. Doesn't Windows still have cab files for this kind of thing like 95/98 had? I ran it from a safe mode command prompt and from a safe mode Windows Repair prompt. Same result as before, some corrupt files could not be fixed.

A browser had to be used to get it to your flash drive. Unless I am missing something. IE, FF, Chrome or one of the others. The OS of the computer doesn't do this without help.

    Hi Bill,

What I downloaded and copy/pasted onto the flash drive was an exe file. That was done at home (IE). My work computer has Chrome. Wouldn't Windows use Explorer to do that?

opening the page is not an issue, along with downloading the app (at the bottom of the test) and installing it.

The app did work on my work computer.

Larry, as I read your Threads.
You can Download the Mazda App.
You can load it onto a USB Thumb drive.
You can Open the download at work OK -- No Error shows -- Windows 10 OS on work computer.
After following Tony's Reset, there is no change to the problem on your Home comp.

The error 104 happens when the App wants to check for Updates.
What happens if you disconnect your Ethernet cable to Modem/Router -- then try the install?
Did the App check for Updates on your work computer?

Did you burn a DVD or Flash drive when Windows7 was first installed on your comp?
You will obviously need a CLEAN W7 copy to Repair the Files.

    Hi RL-

Your synospsis is right on . The only question was whether Updates showed itself at work and it did (successfully). At home, I uninstalled and reinstalled with no internet connection. Same error message upon updating (after ethernet reconnected).

Regarding my SFC results I do have a disc titled "recovery boot disc" from the day I brought the comp home. I also have a System Repair Disc. I never had to us either. What do you suggest? Thank you.

To repair/renew the Files which the System File Check was unable do, I would use the System Repair Disc.
I'm not sure whether W7 Updates would be requested during the process as this may be a problem as the OS is now dated.

I have been trying to stay busy!!

I found both discs to be basically useless. System Repair Disc is the same as Safe Mode's Repair Computer option and none seemed to help. Additionally, I cannot run SFC in Safe Mode as I get a message that another system repair is already in progress (it is not) and to please restart and run again. It never clears but it it does run in std mode.

However, I looked at the CBS log of the sfc scan and there is just one corrupt (missing?) file that could not be replaced (mentioned numerous times): pmcsnap.dll. All log entries seem to state:

2022-05-25 21:06:13, Info CSI 000001bc [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"pmcsnap.dll" of Microsoft-Windows-Printing-ClassInstallerAndPrintUI-PMCPPC, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing.

However, SFC says it is corrupt (instead of missing) and that SFC couldn' t treplace it.

I searched the c:/ for it and found it in three locations. (my Win 7 is x64)
    1. The System32 folder
    2. The SysWOW64 folder
    3. C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-p..erandprintui-pmcppc_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_0d6fabd7def3be93

Dlls in #2 and #3 are identical, whereas #1 (x32) is different (as one would expect).

Seems to be related to printing and I have no printing issues at this time. Is there anything constructive I can do with this info to correct it? THANKS!
