My Windows 10 has never been able to wake up from sleep from a keyboard key press. I essentially have a power button on my Cooler Master case that I have to press to wake it up (the power button blinks when it's asleep, is always lit when it's powered up and running).

The interesting thing is, Windows 10 looks configured to wake up on key press:

I'm not sure why I have two keyboard devices, I've always used the same keyboard, have never had another one plugged in, but the details on the drivers between the two devices is the same.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get my Windows 10 to wake up from a key press? I worry about wearing out the physical connection the power button on my case makes to whatever board it is connected to. The button sits flush with the surrounding surface of the case and isn't really a super smooth action, it's a hard click. Basically, it feels like one day it will just wear out/break. It's also just kind of weird to have to wake a computer this way.

"Wake on Keyboard" (along with Wake on Mouse) is a common option found in the BIOS. Yours might be set to Disabled. So try looking in the BIOS Setup Menu for that option.

Also, it could depend on the USB port you are using. Many, if not most motherboards have specific USB ports for the keyboard and mouse where the +5Vsb standby voltage is maintained, even when the computer sleeps. This keeps the port alive as long as the power supply is plugged into the wall, and its master power switch on back (if it has one) is set to On (|).

On some motherboards, the USB ports may not be kept alive and in those cases, pressing a key, or mouse button will have no effect.

You should be able to delete one of the two devices... I have also two... One says Logitech and the other just just says USB on the "location" page.... I use a Dell keyboard... I would delete the other one if I wanted to "test" this.

Yep, I change my BIOS configuration to set that to true. One interesting thing is it took about a minute for my PC to actually go to sleep when I first told it after the config change. Before that, it would take like 10 seconds.

In the end, it didn't work, though. I still can't wake my PC up with my keyboard or mouse.

Anyway to lookup my motherboard to see if this is the case? What would I look for?

Check the computer or motherboard manual. They typically will indicate where to connect the motherboard and mouse.

You might try a different keyboard too.

Bought a new keyboard and that is working to wake my PC from sleep after making the BIOS config change.

    Thanks much for the help!
