    Hi,
My Windows-10, 1TB, Dell Laptop C: Drive got full all of a sudden. The disk is not partitioned. Only 17GB was remaining.
I have cleared recycle bin, done disk clean up, run a full scan with Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, and moved many files but I have only managed to increase free space to 48GB!
Could this be some hidden virus?
    Help

I doubt it - I am assuming you keep Windows 10 updated and you use a real-time anti-malware solution too, that you keep updated.

I am also assuming Kaspersky didn't find anything when you ran a scan. But for peace of mind, you could always run a manual scan again with Malwarebytes Free, just to make sure.

If your computer is running fine other wise, if you still have a windows.old folder or file, that can be deleted too. That is used to "roll back" Windows to a previous version should something go wrong with the update. Windows.old is supposed to automatically be deleted after 30 days, but sometimes it seems to stick around for some reason. And again, if the system is working fine and you don't see yourself rolling back to a previous version, you can delete it manually.

48GB is a nice chunk of free space so in terms of having enough free space for Windows to operate properly within, that is not an issue. Drives do tend to fill up much quicker than we expect. We download and install new drivers and new versions of programs, yet the older versions of those files stay behind, adding to the clutter. You can empty your Download folder to possibly free up some space there.

You might try something like Folder Size, TreeSize and/or my favorite, WinDirStat to map out your drive(s) and see where the space is being used. But I caution, do not delete anything unless sure it is not needed by your system - Google it first.

    Good luck.

I know you have Avast. But Windows Defender does an excellent job. You could free up more space using Windows Defender.

Well, he said he uninstalled it and that is how he freed up so much disk space. Hopefully, Defender enabled itself again (like it is supposed to - but occasionally does not). Fortunately, it typically is very easy to re-enable again in Windows Security.

And for sure, I agree that Defender does an excellent job. It is what I used on all my systems here.
