I am reinstalling Windows 10 on a HP Envy desktop that won't boot - tried Restore and Recovery and all fails. As I reinstall, will I need the original W10 license or will the computer pick it up automatically? If not, is there a way to come up with the license or will we need to contact HP?

You'll find out soon enough what you need. But the original owner of the machine was given a code when they bought it retail.

Or the code may be on a sticker on the back or bottom of the computer.

I'll be reinstalling this afternoon so I will know soon what I need. They don't have much left from the time they bought the computer. They do have Model, Serial, and Product numbers so that should give me enough info to contact HP for some help in that area - if needed. First thing I will do is examine the computer - top, bottom, front, rear, and sides to see if I can find the information there. Thanks.

Hi Robert, Can you get the HP Recovery when Booting the comp and pressing F11?
You may have options there for Re-install.

Hi Robert. Typically as long as Windows was activated already then doing a full re-installation of Windows 10 will automatically activate with no issue so you should be good.
