First, this is not a serious issue. So don't fret too much about it.

You generally have three options. The first is to just wait. Very often these things just work themselves out over the next week or so - especially after there has been time for enough feedback to get back to Microsoft and they can tweak the update to handle the issue. This is what I typically do.

You can go into Device Manager and delete the current driver, then run Windows Update again.

The last option is to tell Windows Update to not update drivers. You can disable updates for all drivers, or specific drivers as seen in these tutorials.

Okay, a fourth option is to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and see if that helps.

    Thank you sir.

How can I determine which driver it is that is hanging it up?

No sir. All it tells me is the message in the jpeg attachment in my first post.

Your screen shot says you are missing important security and quality fixes.
Have you been on Auto Update?
I have 2 Desktops and 1 HP Notebook running Version 21H1 Build OS 19043.985.
You are running Build OS 19042.746 which is 20H2.
As Bill suggested, Driver updates may be your problem but my next question is what AV is your wife running?

    Okay. Here's the final.

The unit had continued to refuse updates and was giving the error message noted above.

Last evening the 21H1 feature update showed up so I clicked download and install to start the process. "No harm in seeing if it works" was my attitude.

When I went to bed about 10 pm the screen still showed 0% and installing updates. Just before I turned in I told my wife I was at the end of my swiss cheese body of knowledge, and that she might have to get their office network guru to look at it.

This morning I checked. The update installed and the unit rebooted overnight. The error message is gone. It's magic...

Thanks again to all for the feedback.

Okay, so once again, the first option (just wait) seems to have worked. :) That said, I may have to change my standard recommendation of waiting "a week or so" to "2 or 3 weeks". I wish more folks had your patience but sadly, waiting seems to be too difficult for many and then they dink it too death. :(

    LOL

Yeah, some times it sure seems that way. Back in my Air Force radio maintenance days, we used to call it "FM" - not for frequency modulation, but for a certain type of magic! ;)

Anyway I am glad it appears to have sorted itself out. Thanks for coming back and posting your followup. :)

Hi basketcase, Please set my mind at rest. It's nice to see that your wife's comp is working OK with 21H1 - but what AV is she running on the comp???
    TIA.o_O;)

Whoops! Apologies. You asked that earlier and I forgot.

    Windows Security, and Malwarebytes Premium.

Thanks. Obviously there was no conflict with 3rd party AV.;)
