Recently installed microsoft edge on my win 8.1 desktop and when I click on it it comes up blank and now IE 11 will come up if I click on it but it won't load any websites. Weird is that IE 11 is no longer showing in my installed programs using win uninstall and revo uninstaller. Tried to reinstall edge today but it just hung up. Wondering if it would be safe to remove edge either by going to uninstall programs or by uninstalling the win update KB4567409 which installed it? When I go to taskmgr I see both IE 11 and Edge exe running on 4 to 11 or 12 lines. Am using firefox which is working as I am preparing this message. Wish I had never installed Edge. IE11 was working before I did, but, mainly use firefox. also saw where you could stop Edge from running by renaming microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe. I don't want to harm my computer. I would like to reinstall IE 11 but cannot find a download for it( but , since I cannot find it listed in my programs I cannot uninstall it first) Went to Internet Explorer in program files and clicked on ieinstal.exe, but nothing happened. did not see a uninstall. exe file there. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi Marv6, Look in Control Panel > Program and Features > (upper left) Turn Windows Features on or off > You will find IE in there.
Edge is a different beastie these days as the "Latest/Newest" Edge is the flagship to be.
I have an entry of Microsoft Edge showing in Programs and Features but I haven't tried to uninstall it as it shows no Volume (MB's).
As I no longer use W8/8.1 - the Default Apps in W10 is where you control your Default Browsers.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply retiredlearner, I have Edge on my win 10 laptop but never use it. I use Firefox. On my win 8.1 desktop both IE 11 and Edge show as using a lot of memory in task mgr, but, neither works. Edge comes up with a blank page, IE 11 comes up showing all but will not download any web page at all since I unfortunately installed Edge with win update. Will re-check Turn Windows Features on or off and see what is there. Thanks for the suggestion. Still concerned that If I delete Edge from 8.1 that it might mess up something else.

Might want to try a system restore to a point before that update was installed.

Thanks TonyT, I tried uninstalling it with revo, did not work said that I needed to close Edge and start over so I went straight to windows uninstall and it worked. I then deleted the KB4567409 and today when it said that the update was available I hide it. When I first tried to uninstall the system went crazy and the edge.exe file kept trying to load and reload started getting messages that my memory was really low and I got a blank screen. rebooted and uninstalled thru windows uninstall. Computer is currently working just fine and IE 11 is now working too, but, very very slow. I will stick to Firefox.

As Tony suggested, my next adise was to try a system restore prior to the Update.
As I said in my earlier Post, MS's new Edge is the "Flagship" and the first version of Edge is not to be supported.
IE is still in use but MS consider Edge to be better and hence the endeavour to get Windows users to use the "newest" browser.
MS would also prefer users to update from W8/8.1 to W10 so this may your next problem.;)

have u tried to go into old configuration panel and reset Internet Explorer options back to defaults? and in revo u need to uninstall a windows apps or modern as they being called nowaday... cause it's managed by a user called trusted-installer on windows even if 7/8/8.1 or 10... but better use a tweaker to get rid of edge cause it stopped all the service microsoft edge runs in the background... so u can use any web browser u'd like... search for that on the net... but yeah u can get rid of edge without affecting the fact u could still be able to update your system... and won't get bothered by microsoft... and the use of their apps... but i'll try first to go into the old configuration panel and check to reset my internet explorer 11 settings or even reset them back to their defaults... but yeah without troubles u can get rid of edge and boycott microsoft and their apps... without doing damages to your computer... doubt it's the update KB###### messing things up in your system...

Thanks Patrick, Was able to uninstall Edge using using Control Panel, Programs, uninstall a Program. After uninstalling Edge, IE 11 started working again(but too slow). Still don't understand why the KB###### to install Edge did not install it properly to begin with? And, when I tried to reinstall it again the installation just hung up. Since I really don't use it glad I was able to get rid of it. Would have preferred Revo because it gets rid of more stuff than the windows uninstaller. Would like to reset IE 11 but where is the old configuration panel? thanks again!

retiredlearner, FYI, tried the repair and it now works a little better but still as slow as molasses on a cold day. Think I will uncheck it in Programs and Features Turn windows features on or off, and, take another look at it later.

yeah this could work too... but for old control panel u got to press WIN + R then type "Control" then hit Enter... then u'll see "Internet Options" open it then hit the advanced tab and at bottom a button to reset to default

Hi Marv6. Can you post your specs of your desktop and if your desktop PC has a hard drive or an SSD?

An SSD upgrade might be the easiest way of improving your system performance along with upgrading your system to Windows 10.
