We're trying to automate the tracking of assets and I've been able to read the computer serial number using Visual Basic and WMI (Win32_ComputerSystemProduct) on our W2K machines. However, I can get WMI to work correctly under NT 4.0 (I receive an automation error). Is there some other way to read this information?

    Hi Keith Beck and welcome.

I think AIDA32 will do what you need. Post back your results for others benefit.

Here's another link that may be less confusing, they have so many different language versions.

    Cheers. :)Try this one.

I forgot to mention it's freeware! I hope it can help you with NT4, not sure though.
