Resolved Problem re-installing Windows Live Essentials

    I had problems with my installation of Windows Live Essentials. Consequently, I had to delete my corrupted installation of WLE 2012, the final version. I now need to re-install WLE 2012 the final version. I have accessed copies of this on the internet which are legitimate to the best of my professional judgement. However, when I try to re-install WLE 2012 from each of these sources it 98% installs and then aborts with 0x800c0006 - couldn't install, Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker, writer. Can you direct me to a known legitimate set of complete installation files for the final version of WLE 2012 and help me to resolve the installation problems which I am experiencing.

    I had/have WLM installed on my Win 10 PC for years. Then after a MS update it quit working completely. I turned down the other Apps that came with it also. I also reinstalled it to no avail. I guess MS doesn't want us to use any of it anymore. I know that it hasn't been supported for years. It wasn't broke, but the fixed it by breaking it in my opinion.

    Thank you for your reply. Many people used WLE 2012 under Windows 10. You are correct to say that WLE 2012 is not a part of Windows 10. However, I need to be able to access my email message store and messages as well as Contacts list from WLE 2012 Mail. Any help regarding this would be most welcome.

The problem is the 0x800c0006 error message - couldn't install, Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker, writer.     I am not sure why you can not install WLM, but if it stopped working in win 10, here is the fix:
    Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live mail and create these entries or of they exist modify the "DWORD to 1
    "RecreateFolderIndex"=dword: 1
    "RecreateStreamIndex"=dword: 1
    "RecreateUIDIndex"=dword: 1
    Close regedit and start WLM up again. it should now work.
    I don't know if that will help if you can not install.

    I use Live Essentials on Windows 10 with no problems. However, I only ever install Movie Maker & Photo Gallery.

    Apparently, its programs Mail, Messenger and Sky Drive (One Drive) have limited operability on Windows 10. But I have never used them anyway.

    Note: I read that other users have difficulty installing on Windows 10 and their solution is to right-click the installer exe and select Run as administrator.

    0x800c0006 error has to do with Language Packs.
    When the installer is running it connects to Microsoft servers in order to install the necessary language packs, even if you don't need other languages than English. Because the software is no longer supported by MS the connection to the server(s) will fail and the error message gets generated.

    To install Live Essentials, download the FULL version (offline installer) that I linked to above or the full version you already may have. Then disconnect from the Internet by disconnecting your wifi or by unplugging the cat5 cable from the computer. Then run the installer as Administrator. This should work.

    The error you get and install failure has nothing to do with antivirus.

    Do NOT select to install One Drive as the version on Win 10 is a later version. And if you don't need Messenger don't select that one either.

    If Tony's suggestion doesn't work - I would Disable any 3rd party AV while trying to install an MS software.as Defender will handle your AV while performing the task and it will be compatible with WLE. Just my thoughts.;)

    TonyT was/is entirely correct. Well done that man. The messages usually did relate to LANG in some form or other. I now have to work out how to associate the files belonging to the corrupted/failed/deleted version of WLE 2012 with the current installation. I have done this before. However, if I need any help I will let you know. Thank you for all your help, everyone. It is much appreciated. I will leave the thread open until I have successfully linked the previous installation files up with the current installation.
