I am dual booting W10 pro and W7 Pro succesfully. I just changed EE internet provider for BT Smart Hub 2, and the speed has gone from 12 Meg to 54 Meg for very little extra money.
W10 works as it should and connects to the Internet at start up every time.
If I boot into W7 however it does not connect, the only way I can get it to connect is by going into Device Manager, clicking on the properties of Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (says This device is working properly) and toggling between Speed and Duplex, 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex, and Auto Negotiation. The setting stays the same the next time I boot into W7, but it will not connect until I change it to the other setting. It then connects almost immediately.
I can live with it but it is just very annoying, and a solution would be good.
    Thanks for looking,
    Regards
    David D

Is that AFTER you installed the Win 7 drivers for the network card?

The fact that you also have Win 10 on the machine shouldn't make any difference.

Thank you Steve. Both OS were connecting fine with the ISP and a net gear router. This seemed to have happened when I changed to BT and their router.
On boot up W7 Network and sharing centre says Unidentified network,

This morning On troubleshooting the Red Cross on the basic network info, it comes up as Problem found, local area connection does not have a valid IP configuration. Fixed. Now I have internet connection, until I reboot back to w7 when I have no connection automatically again.
Network card drivers have not been changed, and come up as up to date.
    Thank you for your help,
    Regards
    David

Because you got a different router Windows operating systems may be attempting to connect to the old router because it has cached settings and configurations. The routers have network adapters with unique MAC addresses and the new address conflicts with the old one. Because Windows 10 does not seem to have the connection problem I would concentrate on Windows 7 and reset the network to factory defaults and start from scratch.

Set the Windows 7 network adapter back to its defaults, the settings before you changed them.

On Windows 7, open a command prompt as Administrator. Go to the menu: Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator. Then run these commands in succession:

    Code:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    nbtstat -R
    nbtstat -RR
    netsh int reset all
    netsh int ipv4 reset
    netsh int ipv6 reset
    netsh winsock reset
Reboot computer back to Windows 7. Set up the network. Reboot back to Windows 7 and see it settings stick.

    Tip:
You do not need IP6 at all yet and likely won't for quite some time. Or QoS. On both operating systems you can access the adapter properties and uncheck:
    Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPV6)
    QoS Packet Scheduler

I would uncheck these after the reset and network setup.

    Tony,
I started on the commands. netsh int reset all came up as command not found, so I didn’t go any further.

Thanks Tony. I did as you suggested (I think so anyway) but on reboot the changes seemed not to stick, and it came up as before, and would only connect after troubleshooting the connection.
    I appreciate your time.

I would now try on Win 7: Device Manager > uninstall the network adapter > reboot and let windows auto-reinstall it. Connect, then reboot to test if works now.

    Thanks again Tony,
I uninstalled the network adaptor. Rebooted into W7 and it installed device driver software successfully.
The task bar internet icon came up with a yellow triangle, ( as previously) saying unidentified network.
Network and sharing center basic network info showed in the middle, unidentifiable network, and then a Red Cross to is right.
Just below unidentifiable network showed Work network. (changes to home after troubleshoot connection)
I clicked the Red Cross to troubleshoot, and it fixed the problem found ((LAC does not have a valid IP config). It connected immediately, and showed “network 3 Home Network in the sharing center.( was unidentifiable, and work network)
Rebooted into W7, task bar icon searched for a while but came back to yellow triangle, and N&S centre was back to unidentifiable network, Work network. (Clicking the troubleshoot Red Cross stills get me connected though)
What I need is a SAVE button somewhere !!!!!!!
    Regards
    DD

I would seek out and install the drivers for the specific network card.

I installed this (7.134.723.2020 from 7.46.610.2011) and it showed up in the device manager driver page for the card. I rebooted into W7 twice, and each time W7 connected to the internet as it should. Even though Device manager said the driver was up to date, it was obviously misleading me. So it looks like you have solved the annoying problem. I have learnt a lot trying to get on top of this, which is always a plus.
I am very grateful to you both for your time and help.
Very best wishes and keep safe,
    David D
