Hi, Win 7-64 desktop for years. Just this morning, an issue started with my internet. When I boot up, it will work fine for a few minutes then stop working. The systray symbol says all is fine and that I am connected. Google will say on the bottom bar "connecting" and that is where it stops. If I reboot, all is good again for a while.

I have an ethernet wire coming to a switch on my computer desk. The Wi-Fi access point is working great off this switch. I moved connections around on this switch. I have power cycled it numerous times. All of this to no avail when it comes to my desktop's consistent connectivity. I changed the cable to the desktop, too, to no avail.

I ran a diagnostic on my adpater icon in Network Connections and it said "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding". This sounds like an ISP issue but my phone on wi-fi (off same switch) is working great. My DNS is all set to automatic per the ISP.

Not sure what to do next. Seems like something got corrupted. I checked System Restore and there is one from a couple of days ago from a Windows Update install but not from last night or this morning. Malwarebytes Premium is clear.

    Thanks for any suggestions. Larry

When something like this happens and I myself have made no changes to the system and no updates have been installed recently, then I sit on my hands for a day or two. After that time, if the problem persists, then I go into "panic mode" ... ... !

There could have been issues with your DNS, which is provided by your ISP and configured in the router automatically. If the problem persists, access your router and change the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary to 8.8.4.4 (google DNS).

Problem persisted this morning so I changed the DNS settings and, voila', everything seems ok now. Firstly, Tony, THANKS!! But secondly, any idea why would my phone wi-fi work fine if the DNS issue was ISP based?

    Thanks again!!

The phone uses a data connection AND wifi. The phone dns was likely set by the data connection. If all remains OK then please mark this thread as resolved.
