I finally succeeded in getting a clean installation of Win10 Pro on a virgin SSD and am slowly getting familiar with it. But, I have a problem.

When I open a program it opens in a window and places an icon in the Taskbar. The problem is that the window closes almost as soon as it opens. It can be reopened from the Taskbar icon but, then, the same thing happens. Sometimes, if I'm fast enough to get the mouse pointer into the window, it will stay open but will close as soon as the pointer is moved out of the window.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Jim - Sounds like your programs are immediately minimizing.
Most common cause seems to be Tablet Mode is turned ON.
Please check that Tablet Mode is turned OFF.
(Action center at right of task bar - Tablet mode will be 1 of the settings)

    Hopefully that's it

Hi Guys, Thanks for the quick responses.

OS details are: Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1909 (build 18363.836).

It isn't a single program, it's most (but not all) programs, and, yes, they immediately minimize. I had trouble finding the Tablet Mode settings because my Win10 system doesn't seem to have an Action Center (if it does, I sure couldn't find it, and I even even tried using the search and run windows), but finally located them from the Classic Shell Start menu: Settings>PC Settings>System>Tablet Mode.

However, I don't think the Tablet Mode has anything to do with what I'm experiencing. After turning it off I rebooted, and the problem remains the same. Besides, on the Tablet Mode page it states "When tablet mode is on, apps open full screen...", and that isn't what happens. I wish they would open full screen, as that's what I'm used to when using Win7 Pro.

So, the solution lies elsewhere. I just have to find it.

By the way, ephe, is that your name, or just a short form of ephemeral? I ask only because I used to know someone whose first name actually was Ephe.

Rl, there are 14 pages in that search. I didn't look through all of them but, of the four or five that I did look at, the links on almost all of them are concerned with windows not opening in Win10, but that's not my problem. When I have time I'll look through all of them. Unfortunately, some links that looked promising connected to sites or pages that no longer exist. I'll keep looking, though.
